Adelaide’s longest surviving rockabilly band, “SONS OF SUN”, formed in the early nineties to celebrate the unique, stripped-back roots of rock ‘n’ roll produced in the now famous SUN studios in the early 1950’s in Memphis, Tennessee. This small studio was the launching pad for the recording careers of Carl Perkins, Johnny Cash, Elvis Presley and many more. It was here that those unique blends of country, blues, hillbilly, gospel and swing gave birth to rockabilly music, which in turn became the foundation of the rock ‘n’ roll we love today.
The “SONS OF SUN” musical style remains sincere to this simple rockabilly genre. The band takes pride in performing tunes from this era and from contemporary artists sympathetic to the sensibility of rockabilly, like Chris Isaak, Darrell Higham, Paul Ansell and bands such as GO CAT GO!. The “SONS OF SUN” formula for up-tempo, wholesome, toe-tappin’ dance music stands the test of time. Their musicality is truly unique and seamlessly cuts across generations.
Whether 16 or 61, you can’t afford to miss this incredible step back in time to when guys were cats and girls were kittens. Gasoline was 5cents a gallon, space travel was the stuff of science fiction and rockabilly was the devil’s music!
For a devil of a good time, catch the irrepressible, “SONS OF SUN”.
